Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how easy it is to avoid things that disrupt my peace. The instinct to retreat, to remove myself from situations that feel uncomfortable, is strong. But when I really sit with it, I realize that running from contrast, those moments that challenge me, push me, or even frustrate me, is just another way of shrinking my world.
The truth is, contrast is not the enemy. It’s the fuel.
Running and Hiding vs. Expanding and Rising
Abraham Hicks puts it perfectly: You don’t want to train yourself to a sensitivity that means run and hide. And yet, how often do we do exactly that? We avoid difficult conversations, disengage from challenges, or stay within familiar circles that make us feel safe. But avoiding contrast doesn’t mean we’re maintaining peace it means we’re limiting our experience of life.
Think about it: every time we encounter contrast, we’re given an opportunity. A chance to refine what we want, to practice emotional regulation, to strengthen our ability to hold our vibration steady despite external circumstances. It’s like lifting heavier weights at the gym, if you never add resistance, you’ll never build strength.
The Fear of Contrast is the Fear of Life
I’ve had moments where I felt overwhelmed, where it seemed like I was spinning my wheels, trying to juggle everything without making the progress I wanted. And in those moments, I used to think: Maybe I should step back. Maybe I should simplify. But now I see that growth isn’t about stepping away from contrast; it’s about learning to dance with it.
The things that challenge us are also the things that shape us. Instead of resisting contrast, what if we leaned into it? What if we used it as a tool to sharpen our focus, refine our desires, and strengthen our ability to stay aligned, no matter what?
Enjoy the Differences
Contrast isn’t here to destroy us; it’s here to show us what we truly want. It’s the reason we know the warmth of the sun feels so good, because we’ve also known the cold. It’s the reason we can appreciate deep love because we’ve experienced heartbreak. Life isn’t meant to be a flat, one-note experience. It’s meant to be rich, textured, and dynamic.
So instead of fearing contrast, I’m choosing to embrace it. I’m choosing to hold my energy steady in the face of challenge, to trust that every bit of resistance is actually refining me, and to stop running from the very things that are here to help me grow.
Because at the end of the day, expansion doesn’t happen in retreat-it happens in rising.
